Anak-Anak Kota (2001 - 2010)

“Anak-Anak Kota” or Children of the City, is a heritage and culture education program that targets young people aged 10-18 from diverse communities and schools located within the historical enclave of the inner city of George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The programmes encourage hands-on, cross cultural, inter-generational learning and sharing of traditional crafts, knowledge and skills through interaction with residents, traders and artisans and the physical environment. Programmes deal with a variety of subject areas such as architecture, ecology, human settlement, trades, craftsmanship, language, custom and foods. Some of the outcomes of this program were street performances, traditional traders’ trail, brochures and community newsletter.

In the past 10 years, Arts-ED has initiated a number of programs through “Anak- Anak Kota”, which includes:

  • Discovery walkabout and thematic heritage trail
(Now adapted as School Tours Program by George Town World Heritage Site Inc.)

  • Creative Arts Workshop

  • Creative Research Program

  • Cultural Heritage Festival
