View fullsize The name Nibong Tebal is literal, describing how the area was once thick with Nibong Palms. Many places here are aptly named, like Jalan Pasar Lama, where the first market stood, and Jalan Titi Timbul, once the site of a pontoon bridge.

View fullsize Traveling through Nibong Tebal, you’ll pass stretches of oil palm plantations. While it’s now rare to see plantation workers, in the past these estates were not only their workplace but also their playground, place of worship, and home.
